Welcome to the African Outreach Center "Community. Culture. Connection"

Follow us...

The African Outreach Center (AOC), based in San Jose, California, is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering African immigrants in the Bay Area, addressing challenges like housing insecurity, employment barriers, language isolation, and cultural disconnection, through targeted media, advocacy, and civic engagement. It bridges critical information gaps between Bay Area diaspora members and their East African home countries via uncensored journalism that covers local issues like visa struggles and workplace discrimination, alongside authentic cultural storytelling to combat stereotypes and foster belonging. AOC drives community organizing against systemic inequities, builds nonprofit capacity for self-reliance, and creates sustainable economic opportunities for African journalists and creators through integrated platforms like online TV (live town halls on rent hikes), radio (job tip lines), blogs (policy explainers), and podcasts (immigrant success stories).

About Founder...

Hon. David Nyang Kueth is a South Sudanese politician and seasoned humanitarian practitioner with over 15 years of experience in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and project management. Born on 10 September 1973, he has worked with numerous NGOs since the early 2000s and recently served as Minister of Cabinet Affairs in Upper Nile State. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Conflict Resolution and Peace Building from Kampala International University and an Associate Degree in Community-Based Development and Project Management from PREMESE Africa Development College in Nairobi, and acquired a Master of Arts in International Relations at IICSE University in the United States. Nyang has complemented his academic training with professional courses in security, terrorism and counter‑terrorism, justice, forensic psychology, international politics, anti‑corruption, management, American Foreign Policy, and project planning and financial management from institutions in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland, and Uganda, making him a recognized voice in governance, peace processes, and community development in South Sudan.

Nyang has contributed significantly to South Sudan's development by initiating and leading a range of homegrown institutions that address education, governance, and community resilience. Through Hope Institute, he has championed civic engagement, peacebuilding, gender equality, and social services, reaching hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people across the Greater Upper Nile region. By transforming the former Nasir Community Development Agency (NCDA) into broader education and social service programs such as Save South Sudan, he has expanded access to primary education and basic services in remote communities. His involvement in establishing platforms like the South Sudan Institute for Research & Advocacy (SSIRA) and Kush University (K'UNI) reflects his commitment to nurturing a new generation of South Sudanese thinkers and professionals, ensuring that local capacity, research, and higher learning drive the country’s long‑term stability and development.

Hon. Nyang has been instrumental in advancing regional and international cooperation through his multifaceted engagement with peace and development initiatives. As a senior representative within the IGAD‑CTSAMVM mechanism, he has helped oversee and communicate the implementation of South Sudan’s ceasefire and security arrangements to regional bodies, strengthening confidence among IGAD member states. He has contributed to high‑level Dar Dialogue processes convened by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, fostering humanitarian access and political understanding among national, regional, and international stakeholders. Beyond the region, Hon. Nyang has engaged with partners in Ethiopia and China on economic and development‑oriented projects, supporting technical cooperation and people‑to‑people linkages that complement formal diplomatic relations. Internationally, his participation as a speaker at forums such as SSABIS and as a registered participant in the Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank has allowed him to spotlight South Sudan’s peace and reconstruction priorities, expand networks with global policymakers and investors, and advocate for greater alignment between international financial institutions and the needs of fragile states.
