African Outreach Center

Community. Culture. Connection

The African Outreach Center (AOC) in San Jose uses digital media, including podcasts, social media, online radio, and blogs, to tell authentic community stories and connect the African diaspora with their home countries. Through these platforms, AOC shares voices from immigrants, youth, leaders, and families while creating a two-way space for dialogue, cultural pride, and civic engagement across borders.

Community Media Hub...

Our Digtal Media Platform

AOC’s media work helps bridge the information gap between the diaspora and home by turning local experiences in the Bay Area into stories that can inspire, inform, and mobilize communities both in the United States and in Africa. It also supports cultural preservation, community awareness, and stronger relationships among people who are separated by distance but united by shared identity and purpose.

Digital Storytelling

AOC’s digital media approach include podcasts, online radio, blogs, and social media as one integrated storytelling system. Podcasts and video conversations are useful for long-form discussions with elders, youth, leaders, artists, and activists, while social media helps turn those stories into short clips, quotes, and updates that travel fast across WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

Connecting Diaspora to Home

AOC connect diaspora to home by creating content that flows in both directions: stories from the Bay Area that reach families and partners back home, and stories from home that help diaspora audiences stay informed and emotionally connected. That includes interviews with people in the homeland, diaspora community updates, coverage of cultural events.

AOC strengthen this mission by using each platform for a clear role. Podcasts carry deeper storytelling, social media drive awareness and engagement, blogs explains issues in writing, and online radio provide live conversation, culture, and urgent updates. Together, these platforms support both community trust and audience growth.
